Interpretations of " Vanilla Twilight "

The title is "VANILLA TWILIGHT"  here it goes Vanilla twilight the soft, diffused light from the sky when the sun is below the horizon, either from daybreak to sunrise or, more commonly, from sunset to nightfall. This song is so sad , sweet and beautiful captures the feeling of missing someone in a poetic, magical way. Adam Young is a silent genius. The song is basically all about the feeling of missing that one person who is dearest to you.

The stars lean down to kiss you
And I lie awake and miss you
Pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere
'Cause I'll doze off safe and soundly
But I'll miss your arms around me
I'd send a postcard to you, dear
'Cause I wish you were here

He want to get doze of something that may help him sleep and will help him transcend him to dreams. But even in those dreams he misses the loved one and wishes her to be here with him.
I'll watch the night turn light blue
But it's not the same without you
Because it takes two to whisper quietly
The silence isn't so bad
'Til I look at my hands and feel sad
'Cause the spaces between my fingers
Are right where yours fit perfectly

Other nights he just look at the sky waiting for the night to end. It reminds him of those nights when they were together and used to look at the sky and talk to each other. He missed holding hand with her during those talks. He trying to get comfortable being alone but is failing. Thought of him being alone send chills in his body. He would rather think about her because that makes him feel that he is with her.

When violet eyes get brighter
And heavy wings grow lighter
I'll taste the sky and feel alive again
And I'll forget the world that I knew
But I swear I won't forget you
Oh if my voice could reach back through the past
I'd whisper in your ear,
"Oh darling I wish you were here"

I definitely agree that the song is expressing sadness and fond memories of a loved one who died. In the bridge, I take it to mean that his sad eyes  begin to see more optimistically and the heavy burden he carries from grief begins to lighten, allowing him to live life at peace and move on, though he will never forget the person he references in the song.
