I definitely agree that the song is expressing sadness and fond memories
of a loved one who died. In the bridge, I take it to mean that his sad
eyes begin to see more optimistically
and the heavy burden he carries from grief begins to lighten, allowing him to
live life at peace and move on, though he will never forget the person he
references in the song.
